Free Seasonal Flu Shots for State Employees and Retirees

The flu shot clinics that were previously cancelled for the Springfield area have been rescheduled.
Please see the schedule below for details.
Please note: The clinics previously listed on the Downstate Illinois schedule
(i.e., Collinsville, East St. Louis and Taylorville) have not been rescheduled.

Over the next several weeks, the Department of Healthcare and Family Services will be providing free seasonal flu immunizations [PDF, 54KB] to State of Illinois employees and retirees enrolled in either the Quality Care Health Plan (QCHP) or a State-sponsored managed care plan.

Special Note Regarding the H1N1 (Swine Flu) Vaccine

The flu shot schedule links (below) indicate the distribution schedule for the seasonal flu vaccine only. The seasonal flu vaccine is a separate vaccine from the H1N1 vaccine and is not expected to protect against the H1N1 flu. Additionally, the H1N1 vaccine is intended to be used alongside the seasonal flu vaccine and is not intended to replace the seasonal flu vaccine.

The H1N1 vaccine is now available in Sangamon County; however it is not part of the free seasonal flu shot program. People interested in receiving the H1N1 vaccine should contact either their county health department or family physician's office.

To Receive the Seasonal Vaccination at No Charge

  • Each employee must present his/her state health insurance card and his/her State ID card.
  • Each retiree must present his/her state health insurance card and another form of ID.

NOTE: Dependents, spouses, contractual workers, consultants, students, as well as employees who have opted out of health insurance coverage through the state are NOT eligible for the free flu shot through this program.

Flu Shots Will Be Available at Multiple Locations

The flu shot clinics that were previously cancelled for the Springfield area have been rescheduled.
Please see the schedule below for details.
Please note: The clinics previously listed on the Downstate Illinois schedule
(i.e., Collinsville, East St. Louis and Taylorville) have not been rescheduled.

Dates and times are subject to change, so check the schedule periodically.

In addition, many county health departments have partnered with the State to provide flu shots at no charge to eligible State of Illinois employees and retirees. Individuals interested in obtaining a flu shot from a health department should contact the appropriate county health department directly to learn the dates and times the shots are scheduled to be administered.
