Most medical plans are designed to cover acute care and skilled care, but rarely cover care of a custodial or long-term nature.  A person may need this level of care due to various factors such as age, illness or accidental injury. 

The State Employees Group Insurance Program offers an optional group Long-Term Care Insurance Plan through MetLife that has coverage options that range from in-home care through services provided in a residential facility. 

Members may enroll or terminate enrollment at any time.  Upon requesting an enrollment kit from MetLife, members will be sent plan information and options, premium rates and personalized enrollment forms.  Premiums for the plan are paid entirely by the member directly to MetLife.  To contact MetLife, call (800) 438-6388 and say “State of Illinois” when asked for your company name.
