Illinois has moved into the top 10 among all the alternative-fueled fleets in the nation, as recognized by Automotive Fleet magazine. The honor reflects CMS' success in incorporating into the State's fleet thousands of cars and trucks that can run on homegrown biofuels
Pioneer Institute Honors CMS Shared Services Effort [PDF, 36KB]
The ongoing CMS transformation - to provide procurement, property management, IT/telecom and other administrative services to Illinois state agencies - was honored by the Pioneer Institute for Public Policy. To recognize its Shared Services initiative to consolidate and "center-lead" critical business functions - and thereby cut costs, eliminate waste and improve agency services - CMS received a 2007 Special Recognition Award from the nonprofit group in its annual Better Government Competition.

The State’s efforts to run its motor vehicle fleet more efficiently – and to power those cars and trucks with homegrown “green” biofuels – continue to receive national recognition. In the most recent honor, Illinois has been rated in the top 20 government fleets in the country – out of more than 38,000 total fleets – by Fleet Equipment Magazine.
Over the past three years, CMS has worked to introduce private-sector efficiencies to procurement, IT and telecommunications and many other administrative services for State of Illinois agencies - acting on Governor Blagojevich’s instructions to run the business of government like a business. Illinois has joined “an elite group of IT professionals” according to the Computerworld Honors Program, which cited CMS’ work that improved Internet access and data service to State agencies and more than 2 million citizens while saving $7 million a year. The bipartisan National Governors Association recognized the efficiency efforts led by CMS in an NGA analysis titled “Illinois Consolidations Save Half a Billion Dollars”.
Deloitte Consulting's comprehensive analysis of CMS' efficiency initiatives demonstrates that the State of Illinois saved more than $529 million during FY04 and FY05. Deloitte conducted an independent review of more than 100 individual projects implemented under Gov. The National Conference of State Fleet Administrators honored CMS with its Environmental Leadership Award, for the agency's use of environmentally friendly, homegrown "biofuels" such as E-85 ethanol and the incorporation of flexible-fuel vehicles in the Illinois motor vehicle fleet.
In recognition for its efforts to save resources to benefit taxpayers across the state, CMS and IEPA received a CIO Partnership Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, recognizing both departments' longstanding achievements in information security and recent leadership on projects using e-authentication technology between the state and national governments
CMS received the 2005 NASPO Cronin Information Technology Silver Award for creating an innovative Knowledge Management system to retain and recycle purchasing information and best practices throughout the State’s procurement network.
The National Association of State Purchasing Officials bestowed its highest honor on CMS for transforming Illinois' purchasing practices into a center-led statewide procurement system.
